January 16, 2010 Tournament Results

To kick off 2010 with a blast, the Seattle Pinball League held its largest Tournament and highest payout yet this past Saturday 1/16/2010! Hosted by League Member, Todd MacCulloch, over 70 folks from as far north as the Canadian wilds, to as far south as the Oregon forests, to as far east as Philadelphia, made their way to Bainbridge Island to take their stab at the SPL prize. Needless to say, the competition was fierce!

Getting 74 people through the first round proved to be… challenging, but we were fortunate enough to have an amazing venue to accommodate such traffic with three large Pinball Rooms containing over 25 machines, one of which a SM freshly out of the box! The 1st Round Qualifiers consisted of 5 games, standard 1st = 7, 2nd = 5, 3rd = 3, and 4th = 1 point scoring on each 4-Player game. Only the Top 16 would move on to the next round. Of course it was not as simple as that, with 25 points being the line in the sand after 1st round scores were tabulated. 10 players still remained on the fence with a score of 25, and only 6 spots available in the bracket! A tie-breaker round commenced with the Top 6 advancing to the round 2! Round 2 also resulted in a required tie-breaker with 4 players on the fence with 3 brackets open. Round 3 produced 4 clear winners, and thus it was down to the Final 4.

The final round was conducted on RFM and SM, Angelo came out strong and at the end of the round was victorious with an 8 point win, followed by Dale and Cayle at 3 points each, and Chris (Raymond's Dad - Now we know where he gets it from!) at 0 points. Of course, with both Dale and Cayle sitting on a tie, a 2nd Place winner must be crowned, thus yet another tie-breaker ensued! This time, SC was the pin of choice and after the vault was thoroughly violated, Dale came out with the most plunder and with it, the 2nd Place victory.

Angelo was 1st, and received the coveted SPL 1st Place Medal!

To celebrate, Canadian Slurpees were consumed by all to the background sounds of electro-mechanical wonderment.

All-in-all, the event was a major success! Not only was it an amazing tournament that included some of the best players in the nation, but the Seattle Pinball League also doubled its membership! Next step… World Domination! Well, either that or another Tournament to be held in February. We'll see you there!
