Seattle Pinball League

February 20, 2010 Tournament Results

Another big collaborative effort in putting on our February 20th tournament at the Davidson's in Mukilteo. We had 8 different people bringing pins and many more helping with transportation, registration, organization and participation. The many people bringing energy to our league is what is making it work. Keep on truckin.

Along with a new champion we had a few other firsts. First tournament with music. I liked the music even though having my requested "Sultans of Swing" did not prove any advantage while I played Dracula. First tournament with multiple electromechanical options. Having different era pins makes selecting your pin in your group a much more strategic option. EMs have a different skill and strategy. Being a well rounded player is key to advancing through a multiple format round. First tournament with ballers in the hot tub. It was nice to have some sunshine, a hot tub, and people enjoying themselves beyond the pinball scene. Last and least we had the lowest score possible in the first round of tournament 5, by our formerly #1 ranked player Rod. Yes that means Rod placed last in each game played.

With 30 participating in our 4th tournament our numbers continue to grow. There was a 5 way tie for 4 positions to make it out of the fist round. Just don't come in last on the tie-breaker. Well I came in last on Surf Champ. There were 2 balls that I didn't even touch or flip! I suppose I need to work on those EM skills.

So top 8: Todd, Ethan, James, Elijah, Robert, Mike, Raymond, and Steve.

Games were played and the magic number of 6 would get you to the final. Home cookin Raymond with 7 points was the leader of the final four. New SPL member Mike Lorrain, Robert "The Kid From Canada" Gagno, and Steve "Freal" Cartoon all made the final 4 with 6 points

Dracula was the first to be played in the finals with Steve victorious. EM Funfest was the next game played and Seve again bumped, banged and chimed his way to another victory. So with two victories and 8 points Steve was out of reach of the nearest competitor. Robert chose Medieval Madness for the 3rd finals game. With only 3 million scored on his two balls Raymond took his wrath out on the third ball. Many minutes and multiballs later Raymond had scored 111,000,00. An impressive display pin skill. Robert couldn't destroy enough castles with his 3rd ball. I can't remember what Mike did. And Steve showing pin compassion was just going though the motions on his victory lap.

So our Mukilteo champion is Steve Cartoon!!!! Raymnond Davidson in 2nd, Mike Lorrain in the money at 3rd and Robert just missing the podium. So 4 tournaments 4 different winners. Many more to come.
