32 participants in our April tournament hosted by Randy Pouley and family. An impressive line up of games in the garage was matched by the spread in kitchen. Pizza, Phad Thai, Chicken Curry and the Cartoon's Keg.... was there a pinball tournament happening too? First round was a tough one. 25 points were needed to make it to a tie breaker for the semi-finals. Jeff Gagnon with 3.5 Billion on Attack From Mars, dominated over Peter Davidson and Brian (my favorite movie is Tilt) Headley. Jeff goes into the semi-finals. Another round with some tough groups led to a tie breaker between Jamie Beth and Julie. No birthday love for Julie as she was taken down. Your final 4 of Raymond, Brian Chesbrough, Jeff G, and Jamie Beth battled it out in a finals that could have turned many times on a single shot. The first two games played Whirlwind, and Creature From the Black Lagoon led to a game 3 that was nuttier than Toi's Phad Thai. Game 3 Jamie Beth selects Batman Forever. Dominating the first two balls and with a commanding lead 1st player Raymond needed something and after a crappy ball with it draining down the left outlane something happened. The game reset. With the malfunction another game 3 was selected.... No Good Gophers. This game came down to a ball 3 showdown with Brian putting himself in the mix scoring 4.3 million. Jamie Beth with the final ball could win the tournament if she could overtake Brian but, the gophers proved too tough. So tied with 6 points each Brian and Raymond have a one game showdown on Batman. Raymond with a score of 3.7 million was within reach of Brian on his third ball. With the Joker screaming to "shoot it in the mouth" throughout his turn Brian couldn't come up with the shot that would put him over the top. So our league has a 2 time champion in Raymond Davidson. Raymond battled through adversity and a tough path of competition to be in the right spot at the right time. Brian Chesbrough with his first finals appearance gets #2. Jeff Gagnon who must have been in contention somewhere in there gets 3rd and Jamie Beth in 4th. The final games could have turned many times on a single shot. This made for a very tense and exciting experience for those playing and watching. The tough competition is also a testament to overall skill level of the group and wildness of the ball. Our next tourney in June will shake up the skills as Mitch hosts Ballyhoo..... all Bally games so start practing. ANU Games at the tournament Theatre of Magic And the results:
